Hyundai Motor Reveals NPX1 Concept Based on IONIQ 5 N at Tokyo Auto Salon 2024

Hyundai Motor Company recently showcased the ‘IONIQ 5 N NPX1’, a new concept model, at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024. This concept model showcases prototype N Performance Parts, marking the first N Performance Parts concept model based on the award-winning IONIQ 5 N high-performance electric car. This model serves as a precursor to a series of enhancements that Hyundai plans to make available for customer purchase.

Hyundai's N brand, known for its high-performance vehicles, is set to release the N Performance Parts for the IONIQ 5 N in 2024. These parts are designed to augment the performance and aesthetics of the vehicle, extending beyond mere cosmetic upgrades. The initiative is a continuation of Hyundai's commitment to high-quality tuning parts, a journey that began in 2019 with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles like the Elantra N, i30 N, and i20 N.

The NPX1 concept showcases various N-specific enhancements. These include a carbon front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and a rear wing spoiler. Additionally, the concept features lightweight hybrid carbon wheels, high-performance brake pads, and lowering springs, all contributing to its enhanced performance capabilities. The interior of the NPX1 is equally striking, featuring Alcantara material and racing bucket seats, emphasizing the car's high-performance characteristics.

Hyundai's plan involves further development of these prototype N Performance Parts, aiming for their availability in the market by 2024. The focus will initially be on the IONIQ 5 N, with plans to expand this product lineup to encompass all N brand models.

Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group at Hyundai Motor Company, highlighted the company’s forward-looking approach. He stated that in 2024, Hyundai would advance as a leader in new tuning parts suitable for high-performance EVs, as demonstrated with the ‘NPX1’ concept model. Park also noted that Hyundai's innovation is not limited to physical tuning parts. The company is exploring software customization opportunities, such as sound and vehicle calibration through Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, a move that is set to revolutionize EV customization and excite the tuning community.
