While the base Mazda CX-5 powertrain outputs similar amounts of power and torque, the engine is mated to an old 6-speed automatic transmission which seriously impacts driving dynamics and efficiency.

This one is powered by a Smartstream 1.6L Turbo GDI Hybrid 4-cylinder engine mated to a 44.2 kW electric motor with 1.49 kWh lithium-ion. The power is channelled to all four wheels thanks to Hyundai state-of-the-art H-Trac system. The combined output is rated at 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque which is plenty of performance. It only uses 6.3 L/100 km in the city and 6.6 L/100 km on the highway.
The other engine available with the CX-5 is a turbocharged unit that needs high octane fuel to make its maximum performance. It doesn’t have the Tucson’s hybrid technologies nor its fuel efficiency.
